Holy Guacamole! A quick, easy, and delicious guacamole recipe that might turn you into a quac-aholic.
While I’m not a lover of all things avocado, add in some lime juice and spices and I could eat guacamole every day (okay, sometimes I do). I love this guacamole on tacos, nachos, etc., and sometimes, I will just eat it with melted cheese on chips for lunch.
The recipe is easy and takes about 3 minutes from start to finish (I actually timed myself to see how much time I devote to this daily guac habit). Here are some rough measurements, but usually, I sprinkle in a bit of this and that and do a lot of taste-testing to get it how I like it. Feel free to do the same!
The Cast of Characters:
- 1 Avocado
- 2 Lime Wedges
- Garlic Salt
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Salt
- Black Pepper
The first trick to amazing guac is to pick a ripe avocado. Avocado season is at its peak during the summer, so now is the time to become a guac-aholic. A ripe avocado should yield to pressure when you squeeze it gently, but should not feel mushy.
Once you have your avocado, cut it in half and pull out the pit. (If you only use half of an avocado, stick the half with the pit intact into a Ziploc bag in the fridge and it should stay good, without browning, for a few days.)
Using a spoon, scrape out the inside of the avocado into a bowl.
Then, using a fork, mash the avocado to your desired consistency. I like it mostly mashed but with a few chunks here and there.
Cut the lime into wedges, squeeze them into the bowl of mashed avocado, and stir.
Next, add your spices. I like garlic salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and a tiny bit of black pepper. It’s hard to give an exact measurement because the amount of seasoning depends on your taste and the size of the avocado. I usually sprinkle a little in, about 1/8-1/4 tsp of each, and add just a dash of black pepper. I do a lot of taste-testing to get it how I like it, but it only takes a few spices to give it a lot of flavor!
